These colourful soapstone plates/trays are hand carved in Kenya from soapstone, also known as Kisii Stone, as they are made in the Kisii region of Kenya.
The plates are 4" square, and about 1/2" high. The stone is first carved, then sanded smooth, and painted with non-toxic paints. Then, the pattern is etched into the plate, exposing the natural white color of the soapstone.
Three styles to choose from:
1) Two lovebirds on a branch, with the word "love"
2) Mother hippo with baby, available in black, turquoise, and red
3) Two giraffes with a love heart between them, available in turquoise or pink
